Grades of Structural Steel
A wide variety of structural steels are available for steel construction. American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) have designated unique names for each grade of steels. There are three types of steels for standard structural shapes available for construction:
a. Carbon Steel
b. High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel
c. Corrosion Resistant High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel

Table 1 summarizes the type of steel and the corresponding grade of steel designated by ASTM.
